As I launch this Substack project, I thought it would be a good idea to work through a few questions for myself that simultaneously give potential subscribers a view into why they should (or shouldn’t) subscribe.
What is this?
Bible Curious is a newsletter interested in helping people increase biblical fluency by asking simple questions.
How does it work?
People subscribe to the newsletter and receive an email whenever there is a new post. My current plan is to try to do two posts per week.
What will the posts be like?
On Tuesdays, expect a post on one of the questions Jesus asks in the Bible. These will be briefer, meant to spark thought.
On Thursdays, expect a post where I chase a particular topic or text down a rabbit-hole of curiosity. These curiosity journeys will hopefully encourage you toward curiosity and asking more and more questions. These will be slightly longer posts in all likelihood (depends how deep the rabbit hole goes I guess).
I also intend to do podcast episodes in a 10-episode seasonal format once this gets rolling a bit. That will largely be based on the questions in my book - Ten Questions to Ask Every Time You Read the Bible - where a guest and I will work through the 10 questions together.
Who would benefit from subscribing?
I’m envisioning this newsletter being helpful for people who wish to cultivate a sense of wonder about the world, God, themselves, and the Bible. It can be used as a part of devotional time, whether alone or in a group.
In some ways, what I am offering here is a sort of deconstructed sermon/devotional/Bible study. Bible study leaders, teachers, and pastors may find this newsletter helpful in their own preparation.
Why are you doing this?
I am doing this for several reasons.
To continue the work of improving biblical fluency in myself and helping others in that endeavor.
To continuously exercise the joy of curiosity and wonder, and to inspire others to do the same.
To practice the discipline, not only of writing, but of sharing what I write.
Should I sign up for the paid version?
I intend to make much of this content free at least initially. I will put a few things behind the paywall down the road, but I am not sure as of yet what would be the best fit for paid content. I’ll keep you posted.
So…where do I sign up?
